This valve effectively limits flow to a pre-determined maximum by maintaining a continuous pressure differential across an orifice. When the differential is below the set-point, the valve opens to meet demand. As the differential approaches or exceeds the set-point, the pilot reacts to small pressure changes, modulating the main valve to slightly close and restrict flow to the pre-set maximum.

The orifice is typically sized to create a 3 to 5 psi (0.2 to 0.35 bar) pressure differential at the desired flow. The maximum flow can be adjusted in the field by modifying the pilot setting.

The 106-EF-8837BX and 206-EF-8837BX are excess flow valves designed to automatically shut off tightly when the flow rate surpasses a pre-determined limit. The integrated 625-RPD pilot senses the valve’s pressure drop, initiating closure once the “tripping” flow is reached, typically at a 5 psi / 0.35 bar pressure differential.
