Sustainability

Our company was built around finding sustainable solutions to support the three waters (drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure services) and ultimately keeping our waterways clean and our communities safe — both for today and for future generations.

Our Commitment

Sustainable Water Solutions

Water is life. Tackling excesses or the lack of water and ensuring water quality are some of the main challenges the world will have to face. Hygrade Australia is part of the Hynds Group that has taken its commitment to the environment seriously since 1973, through the products we create and the talented people we employ. Our people are among the most knowledgeable in the industry about environmental and stormwater management.

Hynds has a 100-year business strategy which includes a commitment to remaining family-owned. We plan to be here for the next 100 years and beyond, so we want to make sure that not only the business is in good shape, but that Australia and New Zealand are too.

A Place Where People Matter

Socially, we prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our workforce and employ more than 900 talented team members across Australia and New Zealand. We support individual development, encourage creativity and diversity, and work together as a team to make big things happen. We are active throughout both Australia and New Zealand supporting local community, sport and school groups and are a proud sponsor of Sustainable Coastlines and the Heart Foundation.

Protecting Our Waterways

From its early inception close to five decades ago, Hynds (and its associated businesses) have been focused on delivering positive change with industry-leading and sustainable solutions. The manufacture of products to support stormwater and wastewater treatment, and ultimately to protect the environment, remains at the heart of our product innovation today.

Addressing the effects of climate change is a huge challenge that we all face. We believe that addressing climate change will make us better off and is committed to Australasia’s transition to a low-emissions economy. We have committed to a 42% reduction in Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) carbon emissions by 2032. This target is based on the goal to limit warming by 1.5˚C and is aligned with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

Our collective carbon footprint is dominated by Scope 3 emissions. We have therefore also committed to engage with our key supply partners and customers to adopt science-based targets.

Our Group organisational carbon footprint was first completed by ThinkstepANZ in 2021 and is tracked annually.

The carbon footprint calculations and assumptions were based on ISO 14064-1: 2018 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol).

We want to ensure that the products and solutions we supply today, are still fit for purpose and achieving all that they need to for decades to come.
